Apple is enhancing its ear tip fitting process with the launch of the AirPods Pro 3. While previous generations of the AirPods Pro have included an Ear Tip Fit Test, Apple has updated the procedure for the new model. Users are now encouraged to start with the medium size ear tip. If this does not create a proper seal, users can switch to a larger tip. Conversely, if the medium size feels too large, they can opt for a smaller one.
New Foam-Infused Silicone Ear Tips for a Better Fit
The AirPods Pro 3 feature new foam-infused silicone ear tips that Apple claims are softer and less stiff compared to those found on the AirPods Pro 2. This new design aims to offer a more comfortable and secure fit for a wider variety of users. The AirPods Pro 3 ear tips are available in five sizes, including the new XXS size, alongside XS, S, M, and L sizes.
Heart Rate Sensing and Ear Tip Selection
One notable feature of the AirPods Pro 3 is the inclusion of a heart rate sensor. For the sensor to work properly, the ear tips must have good skin contact. Apple warns that the ideal ear tip size for heart rate sensor accuracy may differ from the size that provides the best acoustic seal for sound quality. To ensure accuracy, users should position the AirPods Pro 3 toward their face at a 45-degree angle, with the heart rate sensor resting against the ear.
If users notice inconsistent heart rate readings, Apple recommends trying a different ear tip size to achieve better sensor performance.
Acoustic Seal Test for Optimal Fit
The AirPods Pro 3 also offer an Acoustic Seal Test, which can be accessed by connecting the device to an iPhone with iOS 26 or an iPad with iPadOS 26. To start the test, users need to go to the AirPods Settings and select the Acoustic Seal Test option. This test helps ensure that the ear tips provide the best seal for optimal sound quality.
Launch Date and Availability
The AirPods Pro 3 will be available starting this Friday, and with the new ear tip fit process and heart rate sensing capabilities, they are expected to offer an enhanced user experience, particularly for fitness enthusiasts and those seeking improved sound quality.
